COMPOSERS PROFILE

We'll bring you interviews with the most exciting British composers throughout the year. First off, meet Daniel Kidane and Emily Howard, two of the four British composers who were in Porto for the opening weekend of the Year of British Music at Casa da Música, Porto.
.
DANIEL KIDANE

"
MUCH OF MY MUSIC TODAY IS INFLUENCED BY MULTICULTURALISM AND STRANDS OF URBAN MUSIC. I'M ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN THE INTERACTION OF LANGUAGE ... AND THE IDEA OF THE VERNACULAR IN MUSIC IS ALSO SOMETHING THAT INTERESTS ME, IN THE SENSE OF CREATING MUSIC THAT REACHES A WIDER AUDIENCE.
"

BIOGRAPHY
Often drawing from experiences from his own background and upbringing, Kidane's compositions explore social narratives, especially multilingual interactions in everyday life.
UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

10 November 2017: Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. World premiere of the work "Zulu" performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Cristian Macelaru.

.
EMILY HOWARD

"
IT'S THE RESULTING COLLISION AND UNION OF DISPARATE IDEAS FROM DIVERSE SOURCES THAT EXCITES ME, AND THE SUBSEQUENT TRANSLATION OF THESE HYBRID IDEAS INTO SOUND IS ESSENTIALLY THE CRUX OF MY CREATIVE PROCESS.
"
